Vintage Turkish Carved Bacchus Meerschaum Pipe in Fitted Leather Case

Description

For your consideration is this hand-carved Turkish meerschaum pipe depicting the head of Bacchus, the God of wine. The bearded man has grapes and a grape leaf in his hair. The pipe comes in its original fitted leather case with the maker's label "Hakan - Handcrafted of the finest block meerschaum." The pipe has been smoked and is black inside of the pipe bowl. As meerschaum ages and the more it is used, the darker the color. The older the pipe and darker the color, the more collectors prize the pipe.  Meerschaum is a mineral that is prized for its usefulness for pipes.  It is somewhat soft like soapstone, which allows for easy carving. These can have great detail, or be fairly crude depending on the carver's skill.  The pipe
