    Description

Here is a well made vintage liturgical garment- a black TUNICLE, traditionally used by the sub-deacon in the pre-Vatican II ceremonial of High Mass in the Latin rite.
The garment was made by Deiderich Schaefer Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsi. Although there is no label on the vestment to that effect, we have had others like it in our store and are quite sure they were the manufacturers.
It is circa 1930s-50s in age, made of fine black silk lined in matte black silk, and decorated with white embroidery floral designs- with the flower center and buds enhanced in light beige coloration.
It is approx. 42” long from shoulder center to bottom, 28” wide, with 12” arms, about 11 1/2” wide. The embroidered panels are 4” wide and it has two elasticized clasps at either side for holding the garment closer to the body for better fit.
This item was donated by a Canadian parish to a Catholic religious organization in my area, proceeds from the sale to go towards helping to support their mission charities; thus the vestment has been used- but quite gently; with no tears or noticeable stains evident.
Just the single piece is offered here; no auxiliary vestments came to us with the tunicle, an unusual traditional ceremonial garment once used in the Roman Catholic Church.
