    Description

    Vintage Meerschaum Pipe Man's Head Yellow Colored Stem
    A fabulous fellow eBay friend offered me this amazing history lesson regarding this pipe;

    Bit of info on the pipe, from a meerschaum collector: This was made in Turkey, after the mid-1960s when Turkey banned the export of uncarved meerschaum and forced it to become a local industry. These bearded Middle Eastern men are always Turkish carvings. Nothing on your pipe is a signature. Ismet Bekler was the first carver to begin signing his pipes, in 1974, followed by Eyup Sabri and Ismail Ozel, and this became a tradition of master-level Turkish carvers being allowed to sign their pipes. No carvers have signed with anything other than a name, save Ismail Ozel who later signed pipes "The Artist." You have a very nice pipe, but it's not master-carver quality. In my opinion, yours is probably from the late 1960s, and may have been exported by Hayim Pinhas, the biggest exporter of that era (who was not a carver, but purchased pipes from local carvers).”
    Size: The pipe itself is approximately 5.25 inches long including the stem.
    Condition: The bowl is in very good condition with no breaks, repairs, chips, or cracks that we could find. The yellow stem is intact and clean.
