Description
Vintage German Andr. Veigel Enlarging Easel - Heavy High QualityThis is German-made enlarging easel, probably dating to the 1950s by my estimation. The blades allow for a maximum image size of 17 x 23 cm (about 6 3/4" x 9") although they have scales up to 19 x 25 cm. The maximum size paper that would fit on the platen is about 10" x 12". Features as follows:
Bed or platen appears to be made of slate or similar material. It is a solid slab of 10mm thickness, non-magnetic.
Marked "Andr. Veigel, Bad Cannstatt." on the nameplate. I'll save you a Google: First name was Andreas, apparently made photographic equipment like enlargers as well as other technical items like speedometers and tachometers.
Adjustable steel blades, tensioned with leaf springs and riding on an outer bar that appears to be of stainless steel or nickel.
Paper stops independently adjustable to produce border from 2mm to 22mm.
Two steel, spring loaded paper hold-downs. One has a broken spring, the other is sticky.
It looks like there was originally a thick felt bumper pad on closing; there are only remnants left, but no effect on function.
There were also strips of thick felt on the back, some of which is gone, but it still sits flat.
Marking on the edge of the platen: "Gesamthohe 12 mm" (referring to "overall height").
