  • Condition: In this auction is an antique un-smoked Meerschaum estate pipe with the bowl carved in the form of a Sultan King, a Desert Ruler. Other than the pipe showing no damage, there is not much more I can say about the contents of this auction. The original fitted case features a black leatherette cover that is lined in emerald green velvet. The case is nicely preserved, although it does show some light edge wear (see last two photos). Please enlarge and closely review each of the photos I’ve included for this auction and consider them an important part of the description.…..jeff

    Up for auction is an un-smoked antique Sultan/Desert King Meerschaum Pipe with its original case.
    This outstanding Meerschaum Pipe measures
    4 1/2" long (including its original amber mottled-color stem). Measuring from the base of the stem to the Sultan’s nose, the bowl is 1 1/2” long and 2” tall. The pipe comes with its original velvet lined and fitted case.....jeff

    tobacco-smoking pipe
    made from the naturally formed mineral - "meerschaum".
    The first recorded use of meerschaum for making pipes was in 1723. It quickly became prized as the perfect material for providing a cool, dry, flavorful smoke. Because of the porous nature of natural meerschaum, moisture and tobacco are drawn deep into the stone. Meerschaum became a premium substitute for the clay pipes of the 1800’s and remains prized to this day.
