EYUP SABRI UNSMOKED 1982 CASED MEERSCHAUM SULTAN #982 ESTATE PIPE

Description

Eyup Sabri is considered by many to be the most prolific and talented Meerschaum carver of all time. His foray into the art began in the late 1970's in Istanbul and for over 40 years his beautiful pieces were coveted by collectors across the globe. This is an early pipe made in 1982 yet shows just how exceptional his high grade Turkish Block Meerschaum pipes can be. It surprisingly remains unsmoked after almost 40 years and was certainly taken care of by it's previous owner. This figure reminds me a bit of Dunhill's Sultan with his long flowing beard and profile. It feels excellent in hand, lightweight and comfortable while quite well balanced. A medium sized carving it offers a modest chamber yet still affords healthy capacity. From the turban down to the beard we see immense attention to detail. To the rear the shank is carved with Sabri's initials and the number 981 which I believe indicates how many pipes he had carved to this point. It transitions in a 3/4 bend and holds a fancy faux amber stem with fishtail bit. The finish shows beeswax still intact which aids in the coloring of the meerschaum and if done properly it rewards the owner with an incredible look after many years of smoking. Comes complete with original blue felt case with brass engraved plaque reading "Sultan Created By Eyup Sabri in 1982 Istanbul", this amazing piece from the master Sabri remains unsmoked and is not to be missed!

Condition: Unsmoked. Pipe is in perfect condition. Case is missing 3 finish nails which hold down the plaque but one still remains keeping it in place. Superb!
