Clerical Surplice Handmade Sheer Nylon Pinwheel Lace Crochet SquareNeckline NICE

Description

It is an unusual handmade clerical surplice of semi-sheer silk or nylon fabric, vintage 1950s in age, decorated at the bottom and two sleeves with pinwheel circlets of lace crochet.
It has a square neckline both front and back, and measures 35“ long from center of shoulder to bottom of lace edges (5“ of this length is the lace crochet).
The surplice measures 15“ across as the chest from seam to seam, and the arm lengths are 13” measured from underarm seam to outer edge of the lace. This would ideally fit a medium sized person.
The piece was beautifully handmade here in Canada many years ago, probably by a relative if the priest who once owned it- whose name is still on a small tag on the inner neckline of the garment. There is an overall ivory or off-white cast to the fabric and the lovely crochet work, graded in generally Fine condition- just an overall patina of age to this unusual and collectible piece.
