Antique Meerschaum smoking pipe that features a carved figural Victorian man’s head or bust. Notice that this pipe is complete with the storage case that identifies this pipe as a ‘Meerschaum’ pipe. Meerschaum pipes are tobacco pipes made from hydrated magnesium silicate, also known as sepiolite. Sufficiently soaked raw meerschaum takes on a softness that allows pipe makers to shape the mineral readily into both classical and freehand shapes and even carve elaborate figural and floral motifs into the stummel. The case measures 7″ long and at the highest point this case is 3 1/2″ high.
